Summary
Sonic is totally fine after he returns from the Death Egg and the war is over. Losing his breath and thinking the world isn't real sometimes doesn't mean he isn't fine, not that his friends would understand that. Besides, flowers usually make him feel all better, so it isn't even that bad!
Shadow catches on, though, and he's surprisingly... helpful with the flowers thing. Even when he doesn't need to be.
Now if only he'd stop acting like something is wrong. After all, Sonic is fine

“What is that?” Tails asked, staring down into the enclosure’s glass roof.
“Looks like something you’d see at the zoo.” Amy mumbled.
Omega stepped up to the edge of the platform, red eyes flashing toward the enclosure. Several moments passed before he turned back to the rest of the group.
“THERE IS A HIGH AMOUNT OF CHAOS ENERGY CONCENTRATED WITHIN THE ARTIFICIAL HABITAT.” Omega announced.
Rouge’s eyes widened. “Shadow is in there?”

Shadow goes missing just as Eggman wages war with help from a new threat. Right as the war ends, Rouge finally finds his location.
The Mobian they find is nothing like their missing friend. Infinite has broken him down and remade him into a being of pure instinct, Black Arms blood and fear-driven submission.
But Shadow is still in there somewhere, and Sonic is determined to bring him back, and help him recover from the terrible things he’d been put through during his time on the Death Egg.

Shadow’s body has begun to change; modifying itself according to the Black Arms’ original designs for him. But this time, Black Doom isn’t pulling the strings. It’s his own DNA turning against him, forcing him to face the part of his heritage he’s spent years trying to bury.
When Rouge starts noticing something off about him, she turns to the only person stubborn enough to get through to Shadow: Sonic. She knows that, somehow, the blue hedgehog has a way of breaking past his walls.
And, as expected, it doesn’t take long before Sonic discovers Shadow’s new… additions. True to form, Sonic immediately decides he’s going to help (whether Shadow wants him to or not).
