“Ready?”
Liam’s hand feels warm and steady in his, their fingers tangled and his thumb brushing over Zayn’s knuckle. He looks self-assured, confident in the way he holds himself and the way he smiles at Zayn. Zayn wishes he felt quite as confident as Liam, but his knees are a bit wobbly and his heart feels like it’s racing in his chest.
He nods still. “Yeah,” he says, biting down on his bottom lip when even his voice quavers a little bit. He’s not unaware of the way Liam’s eyes darken when he sees it, the way he automatically leans in to press his lips to Zayn’s because he’s learned that it’s the best way to get Zayn to release his bottom lip.
“You’re alright,” Liam murmurs against his lips, shifting to place a butterfly kiss onto the tip of Zayn’s nose, something that never fails to make him smile. “But we don’t need to do this tonight, if you’re not sure.”
Zayn shakes his head. “No, I do. I do want.” He wants it a lot, actually. But there’s something scary about it still. Even if he knows that the people who matter don’t care, and those that care don’t matter. It’s still new, and sort of terrifying, even with Liam’s hand in his.
But he’s ready. It’s time. He wants the world to know.

“I was thinking of going out tonight,” Zayn says, far more nonchalantly than he feels. “Is that okay?” He’s sat on the sofa with Liam, his feet tucked underneath Liam’s thigh, and Liam’s fingers have been stroking the sensitive skin on the inside of his ankle for a good fifteen minutes now. It’s getting to a point where Zayn isn’t sure if it’s too much or not enough. He just knows he never wants him to stop.
He can’t really look at him, he finds. At this man, his boyfriend now. Somehow, he still feels a little bit sleazy in asking. Like Liam should be enough for him. And he is. He’s so much more than Zayn ever thought he’d get to have, and he’s so incredibly, indescribably happy, that he feels the need to pinch himself more mornings than not.
