Sirius’s hands are on him, branding, possessive, raking up his sides, curling into his waist, breath a ghost against his throat. His scent—smoke, sweat, something dark—coils in Severus’s lungs, heady and intoxicating.
He shouldn’t want this. He doesn’t want this.

When Sirius presses him back against the bark, when lips find his skin—teasing, claiming—Severus’s breath stutters. His fingers tighten in Sirius’s hair, torn between pushing him away and pulling him closer.

After the death of his mother the summer before, Severus was already aware that the Christmas of his 6th year would be one of his worst yet. It was even worse than he realised when the Slytherin dungeons became flooded and he had to spend the holidays in Gryffindor Tower of all places. Thankfully only Black was there out of the Marauders, with a couple of the girls, and Severus hoped he would be able to make it through the weeks with little issue. That all changed when he got pulled into a game of 7 Minutes in Heaven.

It isn't supposed to happen like this. Of all the people worth protecting in this conflict, he is not amongst their number. He'd made his choices, paid their prices. That death has not found him yet is no more than the grace of a promise to see this thing through to the end. No one is left to mourn him, after all.
