Summary
“Please…” It was barely a whisper, raw and desperate. “Please don’t hate me.”
Robby felt something twist deep in his chest, panic and heartbreak blooming all at once. “Dennis—”
“I didn’t mean to.” The words tumbled out in a rush, Dennis’s voice trembling, barely holding together. “I swear I didn’t. I didn’t even know what was happening at first. I tried to make it stop.” His shoulders shook, breath coming fast and sharp, as if the admission itself might break him. “I tried so hard.” He squeezed his eyes shut. “Please believe me.”
The room felt impossibly small. Robby could see the fear in every line of Dennis’s body, the way he curled in on himself, bracing for impact, for disappointment, for something worse. He looked so young, so vulnerable, as if he expected Robby to turn cold right then and there.
Then, so quietly Robby almost missed it, Dennis whispered, “…I imprinted.” His voice cracked, the word nearly swallowed by a sob. “…On you.”

Summary
Robby smiled against his mouth, small and fond, catching one of Dennis’s hands and tugging it up. “Hey,” he murmured, guiding it gently around his neck. “Not so stiff. You can hold on.”
Dennis hesitated, then looped his arms around Robby’s shoulders, unsure of how close was too close, until Robby’s hands settled low on his hips, warm and grounding. “There,” Robby said quietly, thumbs pressing into the waistband of his scrubs, pulling him just that little bit closer. “You’re allowed to touch me, y’know.”
Dennis made a startled sound, half-breathless, and rose onto his toes to meet him, the height difference forcing him to tilt up, mouths meeting again in a rush of nerves and heat.
“Easy,” Robby murmured when Dennis pressed too hard, too fast. He softened the kiss with a small laugh, voice slipping between instruction and teasing warmth. “Don’t chase it. Just— yeah. Like that.”

Summary
“Come here, kid.” One of Robby’s hands catches Dennis’s and lands against his sternum, trapping his arm against his chest, while the other stays in his hair, fingers winding into damp curls. Dennis’s attention is everywhere and panicked. He catches a flash of Perlah readying the needle and a desperate sound punches out of him.
“Nope, don’t look at that,” Robby says, using the hand in his hair to force his head back, angling his vision away from the commotion and up towards him. Dennis’s eyes lock onto his, pupils blown wide. “Look at me. Yep, good. I’m right here. You’re doing so good, honey. Just keep those eyes on me.”
The IV tourniquet snaps into place and panic flashes anew in Dennis’s face. ”Robby—”
“I know. It’s just Dana and Perlah. We’re just pushing some fluids, no more drugs. You’re safe.” Out of the corner of his eye, Robby can see Perlah speeding through what has to be the fastest IV placement of her career, Dana keeping her grip on Dennis’s hand to stop him from jerking away. Dana shoots him a glance of warning and Robby tightens his hold. “Okay, quick poke now. Still just us. Deep breath, Dennis. I've got you."

Summary
The stranger from the stairwell stops beside a bank of linen cabinets and folds his arms loosely across his chest.
No, not a stairwell stranger, Dennis reminds himself. His attending.
He opens his mouth. “Dr. Robby—”
“You are a fourth-year medical student on rotation in my department,” Dr. Robby cuts off, “and what happened in the stairwell this morning does not change that.”
Dennis swallows.Dennis Whitaker didn't need fate to tell him he was meant to be a doctor. He just really wasn't expecting his new attending on his very last rotation of medical school to say the words inked around his bicep.

Summary
Dennis gets an itch of his own as he watches Robby and Noelle's relationship unfold, and he has just the plan to get over it.
“I’ll just say that I’m the perfect kind of guy for a man like you,” Dennis teases, bringing a hand to lightly drag down the zipper of Robby’s jacket, his eyes tracking the movement deliberately.
He can hear Robby swallow audibly as he continues, voice dropping in a secretive tone, dragging the words out so he can continue to feel up his attending through his too thick jacket, “Seven week itch, no easy way out without words.”
