Summary
Moving to Lawrence with his family is the most significant event of Dean Winchester's life. It brings a stability he's never known, and the only thing to have more of a profound impact on him is Castiel Novak: the two boys become fast friends the day they meet. But as Dean grows older, he dreams for something beyond the monotony and constraints of suburbia, and he is haunted by the inexplicable feeling that he was born for something more than what this life offers. As he struggles to reconcile the person he yearns to be with what his family and friends expect of him, a fateful choice exposes just how fragile his life in the suburbs is, and possibly risks losing the best friend he's ever had.

Summary
“Tonight, Dean Winchester is supposed to get infected with an aggressive pneumonia and die within the next three days.” Castiel tries to draw some air into his lungs. He chokes on his own breath, coughing for a good minute. It is too human.
“After his death, I am supposed to be finally free. I can finally go to sleep. Forever.” Castiel wipes at his eyes, harshly, the skin on his cheekbones burning under the grazing pressure.
“This is not fair. A life like the one he has lived is anything but fair. I, falling in love with him in both our time of dying, is not fair. But I love him so much. I love him so much.”

Castiel is an almost twenty-billion-year-old angel whose job is to comfort terminally ill mortal beings as they approach their death. He has one last case to deal with before he can retire to eternal sleep. Dean Winchester, a forty-two-year-old writer with Huntington’s disease, happens to be that case.

Summary
When Dean falls off a ladder trying to put up some Christmas lights, he finally gets to meet the next-door neighbor he'd been avoiding. Turns out Pastor Novak isn't a pastor anymore and is struggling to sort his life out just as much as Dean is. Neither of them is very good at accepting help, but they manage to get past each other's defenses and quickly become close. They decide to have a friendly competition to see who can have a better upcoming year. May the best man win.

There was a knock on the front door. Dean groaned, but went to answer it.
Castiel stood on his porch, holding out a store-bought pie. “I don’t cook.”
“Okay?”
“Everybody coordinated to bring you something, since we weren’t sure if you were going to be able to feed yourself when you got home. I don’t know if you saw that there were a few dishes in your fridge.”
“Everybody?”
“Well, everybody except me because I don’t cook.”

Summary

Summary
It’s only Ed and Harry who think they’re real paranormal investigators, Dean’s just along for the ride. The abandoned buildings are cool, and it’s a pretty good distraction from the indignities of his real life– taking care of Sammy, keeping up at school, and trying to figure out if he drunkenly confessed his gay feelings to that one weird guy who keeps showing up at Charlie’s events.
