Returning to Javert’s side, he pulled up his shirt once again, then wet the cloth and used it to gently clean the wound. He took care to not press too heavily or be too abrasive, but Javert still gasped at every touch, evidently incredibly sensitive.
“What do you intend to do with me? Monsieur?” Javert asked, hesitantly, wide-eyed with fear.
“Do with you?” Valjean repeated, not comprehending. “I intend to make you well. Tomorrow I will find a doctor who shall hopefully be able to provide you with some treatment and pain relief. You may stay as long as you need, and then you may do what you like with me. I give you my solemn word.”
“Don't waste your time and money on me,” Javert scowled.
Valjean couldn't make sense of his request. “How would it be a waste to help you and ensure your recovery and good health, Inspector?”
