Set basically after the remake.
Sephiroth is very much alive in Cloud's head. And he has not given up. While everyone else is trying to find a new normal, Cloud struggles with visions of his nemesis at every corner, haunting him by day, exposing him to memories without context, and deepening Cloud's mistrust of basic reality. The price for a semblance of sanity is to give himself over, body and soul, to the one whose fate is now forever connected to his own, but Sephiroth is not gentle. -

Joshua slinked closer, robe slipping to reveal a collarbone dusted with Dion’s fading marks: “Can’t. Dion’s in Dubai. The bed’s too… cold.”
Clive: “You’re playing a dangerous game.”
Joshua trailing a finger down Clive’s tie: “Games are only dangerous if you lose.” His toe brushed Clive’s calf under the desk. “Remember that summer in Nice? When you taught me to swim? You held me so tight I thought I’d drown.”
Clive answered hoarsely: “You were a kid.”
Joshua’s lips grazed Clive’s ear: “I’m not a kid anymore.”

He could imagine Clive kneeling before him with an armored hand over his chest.
He could feel the ghost of Clive’s mouth upon the back of his hand, black steel gently holding his bare palm, chapped lips brushing against him with whispered words that not even Joshua could hear. The sight of such devotion had left Joshua with an urgency to collapse in front of Clive and bring him into his arms, to kiss those olive-tinted cheeks and press the man’s head into his chest.
To caress him and cradle him like a lover would.

For millennia, Sephiroth has longed for a companion, someone to bear his young and accompany him on his journey across the cosmos. None have tempted him until Cloud, a hunter who wants one thing: vengeance against the fell dragon Sephiroth for the destruction of his hometown.
That suits Sephiroth just fine.
Long ago, he conquered this planet. Tonight, he will have something even better.
