The team paused, thinking, when it came to reporters they knew a handful, but this project did sound like something a certain old friend would be involved in.
“Let me guess,” said Hannibal, mouth twitching, threatening to break out into a proud smile. “Amy Allen?”
Stockwell nodded.
“And her source?” Asked Face.
Stockwell smirked dryly, leaning back in his chair. “Colonel Roderick Decker, U.S. Army, retired.”

“What happened?” Snapped Hannibal, instantly reverting to an Army officer who expected an answer.
Evans followed Decker in, face pale. “Two MPs are dead, two more are missing.”

Suddenly Crane was inches from Hannibal, handgun millimeters from the older man’s face. “Watch it Smith,” Crane whispered icily.
“No need to get huffy Crane,” said Hannibal, a touch of tension in his voice, but still far more casual than he should have been with a gun aimed at his eyeball. “A cockroach like Decker is bound to pull through-“
“Hannibal,” interrupted Face, “read the room.”
Face had observed while his commander rattled on. The young soldiers looked terrified, desperate for reassurance. But Collins and Hernandez looked enraged.
And Crane looked murderous.

He was interrupted by Wojo stumbling out of the bathroom. His face was pallid, chest heaving as he struggled to inhale. He looked up at Barney, bewildered.
“Barn,” he huffed, “I can’t-“
His legs crumpled under him, body hitting the dirty floor like a pile of bricks.

Rex watched as the little girl looked at him curiously, chewing on her fingers. Her other hand buried in Cooch’s fur.
“Look Lex!” Said the cat, “it’s your Dad.” She thrusted the baby into Rex’s arms, the older hero scrambled to support her. He had no idea how to hold a baby, settling on just holding her out in front of him in both hands.
She took her fingers from her mouth and stared back into his eyes.
“Lex?” He whispered.
There was a blessed moment of peace before curiosity melted into upset, and a tiny mouth opened to release an unholy screech.
