Summary
Nothing in this world will make Michael abandon Sam. Not their abusive father. Not Sam having an X-gene and discovering he's a mutant. Not human society or laws that are designed to oppress mutants. He will do anything for his brother. If that means running away from home to Santa Carla, he'll do it. Michael will find a safe harbor for Sam. Even if it means giving up his own humanity in the process. He's not too upset. Humanity has never done much for him or his brother. David and the boys are offering a once in a lifetime opportunity. One he would be stupid to turn down.
Notes: Movie characterizations and descriptions. Some lore taken from the musical for additional background. I am not using Marvel's rules on vampires, this is very much set in The Lost Boys movieverse. No X-men are showing up. There will be a couple of mutants later on, but all are minor characters being implemented to demonstrate the state of the world to understand Michael and Sam's decisions.
Alternative summary: What if a pack of vampires adopt a mutant with solar powers that could nuke them instantaneously.

Michael was there tonight; he had been there the last, and he would remain here evermore. Eternally living what everyone craves to catch a fleeting glimpse of once in their lives. He had everything.
Or so he told himself.
~~~
Or, Michael Emerson was turned into a vampire two years ago under the bright lights of the Santa Carla boardwalk. He's spent every night since then balancing hiding the secret from his family and looking for somebody to share eternity with. Luck strikes when four teenage boys move from Phoenix to Santa Carla (your classic role switcheroo).
“I’m Bobby, by the way.” The man looked at him expectantly, waiting for Evan to answer. Bobby then raised an eyebrow, further trying to prompt an answer out of him. But instead of giving him his name Evan simply muttered “Doesn’t matter.”
“Of course it matters.” Bobby told him, smiling kindly before the pair started walking.
Evan shoved his hands in his pockets, “No, it really doesn’t.”
“Well, is there a nickname I could use instead?”
“Why do you care?” He huffed.
“I need to call you something.”
Evan frowned, no one had ever cared enough for that, but then again the only people he knew were his family and they didn’t care about him, at least not about him as a person. ‘Evan’ was the name of the thing they’d created to keep Daniel alive, and now ‘Evan’ wasn’t needed, he’d been discarded, so he might as well get rid of the name too.
He hesitated for a second before saying “Buck, you can call me Buck.”
One fan video was all it took to send canon wildly off the rails and straight to an early grave.
But who needs canon when we can dig deeper into the characters and worldbuilding, raise the stakes, and maybe give a few people some much-needed healing along the way?
Also, there will be chaos. A lot of chaos.
i.e. What if someone caught Rumi and Jinu singing Free and uploaded it?
