Yet it only took one unhinged, bio-engineered man to turn her life upside down.

Grace didn’t know she had a husband until he showed up and simply took her, as if she had a choice, to some secluded house for reasons he seemed incapable of explaining. Grace had called him insane. Zeno had labeled it necessary. Though his odd way of talking made it difficult to really know what the hell he meant. Between his overbearing presence, constant scrutiny, and strange obsessive behavior, Grace can’t decide whether to strangle him or curl into him.
Okay fine. Maybe she was going insane too. Apparently, her brain thought it was perfectly normal to simply rewire itself to accept him. Traitorous as it was, Grace wasn’t exactly trying very hard to stop it. Not when he looked at her like that. Or touched her like that.
Maybe they could be necessary together.

“Steeellllleee,” he drags the word out as it tumbles into a long, slurring laugh. Somewhere nearby, Ratio groans. “How’s it going, sweetheart?”
