Summary
Peter Parker was a liar.
Tony had accepted this fact after the fourteenth invented story of how he got his powers – from human experimentation, radioactive spider bite (what, like a werewolf?). Tony figured it was just Peters way of nicely telling Tony ‘none of his business’ with a few extravagant white lies. An arrangement that suited Tony just fine thank you very much. But there's only so much one can willingly ignore, underestimations of 'how much knife constitutes a stabbing' (the answer is any), when is he actually going to school, and why Peter is so desperate not to go home.

Peters spins his own web of lies, catches his own foot in them and falls face first. Luckily the fire part is just an expression, well minus the flame-breathing penguin anyway.

Tony steeled himself for something. A tearful embrace, maybe a hug that turned into an iron grip around the throat. Instead, Peter dropped his duffel on the couch he had just spent an hour perfecting. A small death inside.
Right,” Tony muttered, clearing his throat. “So—”
“When am I going home?”
Sharp. No warm-up. Kid even left the earbuds in, music leaking loud enough to prove the point: not listening. Then he flopped onto the cushions with an undue hardness.
Tony swallowed the wince. “Wow. Okay. Straight to the big existential. You only just got here.”
Peter shrugged, gaze fixed somewhere past him. “Yeah. I know.”

Tony Stark met Mary Parker at a party. Fourteen years later, there’s a furious teenager on his couch and a past he thought he’d buried at the door. Peter is brilliant, guarded, and far too old for fourteen. Between boardrooms & blown circuits, Tony’s learning the difference between fixing a problem and raising a kid. What he doesn’t see are the late calls, the easy lies, the ghosts in Peter’s orbit that smile too wide and take too much. Money and tech—none of it can patch what’s failing. For the next few years, Peter became his dad’s shadow.
They spent everyday together, tinkering in the lab, laughing through disastrous attempts at cooking that left the kitchen in chaos, or curling up for movie nights that inevitably ended with Peter falling asleep halfway through.
It only got better when his dad helped form the Avengers. They had all moved into Avengers Tower in New York, and while it was quite different from his life in Malibu, Peter didn’t mind. He loved it.
He’d have breakfast early with Nat, Bucky and Steve. He’d get spy lessons from Clint (which mostly involved crawling around in the vent and shooting people with nerf guns). And he’d even sometimes get science lessons from Dr Bruce Banner himself.
Life was great. Perfect even.
Until Harley showed up.
