Enough time for the inane small talk to have finished, he imagined. Enough time for the host speeches and toasts to have started, he feared.

Ashur’s heart gave a tender, confused thump as Tarquin’s gaze cut across the room to meet his.
“Poison! The drinks have been poisoned!”
Vesperian security grabbed Tarquin from each side and kicked out his legs. His knees crashed hard to the floor. They wrestled him face down and pinned his arms to his back.
Ashur’s fingers went numb. Perhaps he dropped the flute in his hand; he didn’t check. “Unhand him—”

He told him about how they used to know each other, in some other life that’s now gone to everyone except for Peter. Ned was over the moon to learn he used to be friends with THE Spider-Man. Still, it’s not all about being friends with Spider-Man—or at least Peter hopes it isn’t. No, it’s just the fact that they get on so darn well. For Peter it’s like he never lost him, sometimes he can almost pretend he never made the mistake of asking Dr. Strange for that spell that eventually came back to bite him in the ass, he can almost pretend the three of them went off to MIT together and now share an apartment together and… and… And well, for Ned it must be more like he’s just found a person he instantly clicks with. Another person he instantly clicks with. He seems to have a lot of those. A big group of friends he made in college, drawn in by that eccentrically charming personality of his.
OR
Peter's on that daily grind of being Spider-Man and getting beat up every other day while struggling to regain a friendship that he doubts is even there anymore. Meanwhile Ned is just trying hard to be there for him even though Peter keeps pulling away.

The guy had even crashed their housewarming party! He forgave him for that, he brought a very nice bouquet of flowers. He had been nice, too. And hot.Spider-Man had a stalker.
Ever since he started getting headaches, someone had been following him. Not a lot, not very often, and never as Peter Parker, but enough that he couldn't think they were anything other than a stalker. When Sportacus woke up that morning, he instantly knew something was wrong. For one, he didn’t feel the urge to immediately flip out of bed. His limbs felt leaden and achy, an unfamiliar sensation that he really didn’t appreciate. Secondly, when he turned his head to look at his alarm clock on the bedside table, it didn’t read 8:08. It read 9:34. He had slept in. That was unheard of for him. Elves were creatures of habit, so to break that, something had to be wrong.
Sportacus carefully sat up, trying to assess his condition. Soreness that didn’t feel like a pleasant burn after exercise. Pounding head. Stuffy nose. Oh. Surely not. Surely he wasn’t sick. He was Sportacus! He was Lazytown’s slightly-above-average hero! He was the pinnacle of physical fitness! There was no way he was sick.
Sportacus gets sick and tries to brush it off. Robbie won't let him.

Grace took a very shaky breath. “Soulmates,” he defined. “You think we’re soulmates.”
“Rocky no think,” he said, tapping one foot against the bunk to give strength to his words. “Rocky know.”
