“Yeah, I am. That’s my girlfriend.” Vi pointed down the table at Caitlyn who, noticing, waved again. Smiling at the enthusiasm, Vi blew her a kiss. “Why do you ask?”
Ren’s face fell. “Oh. Miss Caitlyn has a girlfriend.”
Vi pursed her lips so she wouldn’t hurt Ren’s already low self-confidence by laughing. As if she was the only thing standing in the way of Ren’s crush on a much older girl. “Do you maybe have a crush on Miss Caitlyn, Ren?”

Galga finds love letters written to a version of him that no longer exists — written to Atwert's Dearest, not to the apprentice witch who slipped the origami birds into his sleeves like a common thief. But they are his: his name is right there on the pages. He had, at some point he can no longer remember, received these letters. He had read them and chosen to keep them right there beside the bed where he slept.
