“So you…know why we're here, then?” Edwin asks carefully, trying and failing to catch his eye.
Thomas snorts. “Sure do. So, like. Congrats, I guess. I'd offer to bake a cake, if it weren't for your ghostly taste-buds.”
Edwin and Charles exchange one of their patented looks, the kind that haunts the more self-flagellating of Thomas’ daydreams — the fun and less-fun ones alike. His soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend clears his throat. “Thomas,” Edwin begins, so gentle, so pitying, “what on Earth are you going on about?”
It raises the Cat King’s hackles, the way these two seem to make him feel more prey than predator these days. “Why are you acting so surprised?” he snarks right back. “We always knew our little fling had an expiration date, alright? I just didn't anticipate today to be the day of reckoning.”

When the Dead Boy Detectives show up to the cannery hand-in-hand, the Cat King is prepared to bow out of his "situationship" with Edwin (un)gracefully. He is much less prepared for what actually happens next.

It was just… Pop Idol Vanessa Mystery never got to have its own live action movie or series, even though the fans had been begging for it for years. (Well. There was one adaptation. The movie that made the main four act like sisters, and gave Vanessa some random boyfriend. It Was Not To Be Spoken Of.) Niko had always wanted to see her childhood crushes on the big screen, saying all the brave things she could only dream of.
So when the genie asked, in a deep, portentous voice, “What is your greatest wish?”, Niko (very understandably) said, “I want my favorite manga to come to life!”Or: A genie takes a wish too literally. Everyone deals with the consequences.

Summary
A beer bottle slips out of someone’s hand in the pub they’re haunting, shattering against the floor and sending glass and booze everywhere, and Charles has pressed himself against the wall tight enough that he can almost feel the wood grain through his coat, his polo, the patches of his back that had lost feeling even when he was still alive.
There’s an uproar across the bar, jeers and laughter, and Charles keeps his eyes locked on the floor in front of him, trying to keep track of where everyone is going without making a target of himself. Someone at the bar knocks their shoulder against the fellow who’d dropped his beer, someone else stumbles their way to the loo, a person at the table right nearby pushes their chair back, standing and stretching their arms wide. Charles flinches a moment before their balled fist passes through the space where his head should be.
They wander off, mumbling something about a draft that Charles can barely hear over the ringing in his ears.

“Whoever I was-” Crystal grimaces, tightens her hands around the metal chains. “David gave me back some memories, and as much as I don’t want to believe that they’re real…” She sighs, searches for the words. “David sucked, and he definitely wasn’t transparent with me, but I don’t think he was a liar.” She doesn’t say it, but Crystal’s pretty sure that there’s enough wrong with her that David wouldn’t have had to make anything up to hurt her.
“Even if they’re true, they probably aren’t the whole story.” Niko nods, looking out to the trees around the park. “I don’t think your abusive ex has your best interests at heart.”
That startles another laugh out of Crystal. “Yeah, I doubt it. Still…” She trails off again, twists her seat back and forth until the chains cross overhead. “I don’t think he had to go looking too hard for memories that would make me look bad, you know? It definitely feels more like the rule than the exception that I was a bitch, and it just-” Crystal groans. “I wonder if there’s a reason that David could get into me as easily as he did.”
