Riku has had a bad year. His relationships with his best friends feel fundamentally broken, and he feels fundamentally broken too. The destruction of his home is just the last nail in the coffin.
Still, he can't let go of what he has with his friends, any more than they can let go of him. When Riku finds himself stranded in a sinister amusement park with Sora, he has to figure out how to move forward.
