Summary
“Do I have something on my face?” Zoya demands. A blond boy who could best be described as ‘pretty’ has walked up to her, deftly avoiding the swirling replica mimic robots she uses for training, with a hard to decipher look on his face. He smiles at her question, but there’s something deeper beneath it.
“Sergeant Nazyalensky, please accept my apologies for interrupting you,” he starts off formally. Zoya gets the feeling she knows this man, and after a second it hits her; he’s a PR person who often works on popularizing the war. He looks almost the same in person as seen on TV, except for those haunted hazel eyes. “But you’re going to want to hear this. I’m like you were. Tomorrow is my Verdun.”

Summary
“Hey Azune,” Hal said when he came in. His voice had gone even softer than it was when he helped Azune calm down after a nightmare. He held the wicker carrier up to let him see inside.
Between the cushioned sides of the basket lay a tiny baby. Much smaller than Azune had ever seen before. They had skin the color of late-summer clover and thin dark hair across their head and the most perfect little ears that came to a point towards the back. They were asleep, swaddled in a blanket.
“Meet Namai Areil.”
When one of Hal's acquaintances finds herself struggling to care for her new baby, he offers to take care of the little one for a week so she can rest and recover from the birth. He's no stranger to fostering, after all.
What he wasn't expecting, but maybe should have been, was for his other current foster Azune to be so much help. And through helping care for the baby, Azune may learn some things about taking care of himself.

Summary
She even chews in rhythm, and he keeps her well fed. It is a love language to those missing their mother tongue, how he promises his care and devotion, how he wishes her a better future. The Revolutionary Guard are given their meals at the hall, but they are still paid city wages; it is no issue to him to double her food supplies, to feed her as if she is not also feeding herself.
And it gives them a home in common. Corn, be it golden or blue, sweet or savory, grits or avena; gravy, as breakfast or sauce, to soften biscuits or melt through tortillas.
There was heaven on her face as she took a bite, a flutter in Azune’s heart not too different from a Charm spell set off.

Summary
His face flattens, then twists. “Ah. Mm. It's a little…a bit disgusting.”
“I’m a mom,” Thaisha reminds him. “I’ve dealt with multiple puking children at once. Disgusting hardly fazes me.”
Occtis’s mouth twitches, just for a moment. “Right, um…” He rolls onto his back, looking up at the winds roaring over the canyon above. He clears his throat. “Well, considering it’s…an unbecoming number of degrees below freezing out here, and I no longer produce body heat, I’m, well. I’m a bit hesitant to sit still for too long in case my, uh…blood…freezes.”
The road to Tannesar, and all its good intentions.

Summary
Thjazi likes to tell himself that if he knew how this would go he would have done things differently. When he looks back, there are branching paths, clear as day, that would have led somewhere else. Better or worse, it wouldn't have been this way.
This isn't his story, though. It's Azune's.
