“Is this going to become a habit?” Leon finally managed.
“Which part?” he asked, unbothered, exhaling smoke somewhere off to the side.
“This.” Leon gestured vaguely between them with the cup in his hand. “I’m trying to drink my coffee in peace. You’re interrupting me with unsolicited advice and smoke in my face.”
“Well,” he chuckled, tapping ash onto the floor without looking down, a well-practiced gesture. “I’ve been doing this for five years. I always end the night out here, one smoke, before I go home.” A pause. “So really- you’re the one interrupting me.”
Leon blinked, caught somewhere between annoyed and almost impressed.
“Not that I mind.” He finally added, smiling around the cigarette.

'He felt so pathetic so suddenly. Leon S. Kennedy, who always took his licks and got back on his feet. The DSO’s prize agent, so capable they'd long since abided his insistence to go it alone. For over a decade he'd been a tool in someone else's pocket, a pulse storm you could marshal.
Well, looks like this mission would be his last, cheers to his early retirement. It’s only a shame he wouldn’t have the luxury of being lowered into the dirt in a fancy wooden box.'

Summary
Leon Kennedy was dangerous for Chris. Everyone knew it. Chris could see the way Jill looked at him disapprovingly after catching him staring for a bit too long at the DSO agent. Claire’s warnings about how ‘you know I love Leon, but…’were burned into his brain. Not that he needed them to point out to him that his infatuation with the younger man was a bad idea. Leon was a shattered mess of trauma, distrust, booze, and sarcasm wrapped up in packaging so pretty it could talk you into enabling him with ease. Leon was an inferno. If Chris got too close, he knew he’d get burned. He’d remind himself that he didn’t want to get his heart broken, force himself to stop thinking about him, and move on with his day.
But then Leon would look at him with those blue eyes wet with unshed tears of frustration. He’d lean against Chris, too drunk to stand on his own. He’d come back from an assignment with his body broken and mind twisted in knots with a desperate need for someone to help him put the pieces back together.
Chris wanted to be that someone.
