Evbo’s nerves seemed to have reached a fever pitch. His eyes were cloudy and focused on a spot in the far distance. He trembled imperceptibly, his fingers cool and spasming faintly against the skin of Seawatt’s arm.
“What’s wrong?” Seawatt asked, his voice hushed. Evbo said nothing for a long moment, but his eyes darted down towards his hands. He slowly released Seawatt’s wrist, instead readjusting his grip to Seawatt’s hand. Wordlessly, Seawatt squeezed his hand, and he felt Evbo squeeze back. His breathing was shaky, a little fast, but not bad yet. “Evbo?”
“What if I can’t do this?”
Evbo and Seawatt go to Ally to help settle their nerves about the arrival of their second child. Ally does not help.

Summary
He didn’t know what she now looked like, but he could grasp small details based on the sounds she made as she landed. There was a familiar metallic rattle, louder and more intense than the sounds of Evbo’s feathers. He could hear the screech of talons against stone and feel the updraft caused by what he presumed to be wings. The sound, though, was more like the sound of leather than Evbo’s own near-silent flights.
The beast gave off heat, a mirror of the very desert it spawned from. If Evbo was any normal player, he probably would’ve been absolutely terrified.
Instead, he brought in a shaky breath and turned to face her.Evbo and Tabi speak for the last time.

There’s a man, smiling at him, gently placing down a spatula next to a pan of frying bacon. He glances at Derek, and then the lamp he’s holding, and holds his hands up in an attempt to be nonthreatening.
“Okay,” he says, eerily calm. “I know this is scary for you.”
“Who are you and where am I?” Derek demands.
