    Now Max and Bradley are stuck on a strange little island where everything runs on game logic—where relationships can be forced, emotions can be triggered, and nothing seems entirely under their control.

    And somehow… it gets worse.

    Because the person who finds the game isn’t someone helpful.

    It’s Bobby.

    And instead of realizing what’s happened, he just keeps playing—poking buttons, making choices, and, for reasons Max cannot begin to comprehend, relentlessly trying to push them together.

    Max would like to make something very clear:

    This is not cute.

    This is not funny.

    This is a crisis.

    Bobby, put the game down.

    House clears his throat. The purple haired boy swivels to face him. A sour look briefly flashes over his face.

    “Finally,” he mutters not-so-quietly under his breath before his expression shifts into a polite smile. House is almost impressed with the seamless switch-up. “Hello.”

    House grunts something adjacent to a greeting before shifting his attention to the patient on the bed. Other than the massive cast on the boy’s leg, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with him. That’s boring.

    “My name’s Reo,” the other boy continues, not that House asked. “This is Nagi, my, uh…” He trails off. “My partner.”

    Oh, so it was like that. No wonder this Nagi kid kept staring at Reo with that stupid expression on his face.

    That stranger is Eddie Diaz, a fellow firefighter and single dad who immediately understands. A friendship sparks between the two exhausted fathers.
