Summary
He feels like Steve’s mistress. He feels hollowed out. He feels like a jammed gun still trying to go off. When he’s not with Steve he convinces himself he’s ruining Steve’s life, and though he tries, he’s too selfish to stop. When he’s with Steve, he’d fight God himself to keep it, this tangible perfection that makes him drunk and anchors him in ways he did not know existed.
Or, the one where they both survived the war, Bucky loves Steve now, has loved Steve since he was fifteen, and the year is 1945.

Such a good read! Loved the dialogue and the story. Also loved how their characters are written, feels real & true to the time they were in. Love stories based before/just after the war and this hit the spot. Great writing

Steve, it's not your fault, Sam had tried to say, before Steve cut him off, and Steve doesn't think that's untrue so much as it's irrelevant; fault's got nothing to do with it. It's just—wrong. It's wrong. Steve couldn't wrap his head around it the first time, how wrong it was. Steve should have gone first. Was supposed to. Bucky could have carried on without Steve, he knows, but Steve without Bucky is a zero sum. There should never be a world that Steve is in and Bucky isn't.

Jesus christ, this story was so fuckin good. Crushing and devastating at parts, pure fuckin relief at others. Incredibly written about grief, just unreal. Very well written. Real & raw, also relieving. It's what I imagine lancing a wound would be like but for my brain

Loved reading, have to read again! Love pre/mid-war stories. Loved Steve's & Buckys relationship in this and the last couple of paragraphs at the end were a bit crushing when you know what happens next. Makes me glad to know that in 70 years time, they'll be reunited - even through brutal circumstances. This was a very well written story, I rushed it before work but will read again to give it the attention it deserves

Incredible writing and story, loved every minute. The POV changes were so well done and Bucky's is so haunting at times. Also loved Peggys POV and her memories of all of them during the war. The ending is rlly good too. This bookmark comment does not fully encapsulate how good this story is, just tired rn lmao
