“Humble,” Zuko puts in, tugging lightly on the long fall of Sokka’s wolf tail. “So very, very humble.”
Sokka bats his eyelashes. “It’s his best feature, probably.”
Zuko hums, giving him a blatant, thorough once over. “Depends on who you ask.”]

Sokka doesn’t know how Zuko managed to swing an entire day off during a week of trade negotiations—he does, actually, it was yelling—but he isn’t going to waste the opportunity now that it’s in his lap.
Eating. Shopping. Relaxing. Exploring Gaoling. Testing the limits of trying on clothes as a form of foreplay.
With a whole day in front of them, there’s no need to rush. But with Zuko looking so good outside of the usual layers of his Fire Lord robes, there’s no reason for Sokka not to have some fun along the way.

He once made Katara watch a compilation of his favorite rocket launches and he can name, in order, all 365 manned space flights ever to leave Earth. He has the Curiosity rover tattooed on the back of his shoulder and the solar system wrapped around his bicep and he’s wanted to be an astronaut since he was old enough to realize what that was, has wanted to visit the Kennedy Space Center and see a rocket launch since he learned it existed.
Little does he know that today is the day it’s finally going to happen.

Summary
Suddenly, despite having been itching for this for two weeks, standing outside of Zuko’s door got Sokka’s heart pounding anxiously against his chest.
Fire Nation tradition denotes that, once betrothed, the Alpha doesn’t see the Omega until their next heat starts. Since most matings were usually arranged by the couple’s parents in order to attempt to climb the steep socio-economic ladder of the Fire Nation, the tradition was set to ensure that no one got cold feet. Or at least that’s how it was explained to Sokka, though he really couldn’t see the sense in it at all.
Honestly, Sokka thought it was absolutely ridiculous - both the tradition and just arranged matings in general.
Then again, technically their mating had been arranged with the intention to send a political message to the rest of the world.
A message of progress and unity.
No one had to know that Sokka and Zuko had been together since the war ended and that the political advantages were just a convenient cover up so they could truly be together and no longer have to hide their relationship. So they could finally mate.
So they could start a family.

Summary
Druk only allows his bewilderment for a moment however, before teeth close firmly around his ankle and tug him insistently down the bed. Zuko flails out to steady himself as he is nearly pulled straight off the end, grabbing the footpost to keep from falling. “Druk!”
But his dragon is unrepentant, trotting loudly over to the large door to their chambers and clawing at it with a whine.
Concern finally reaches past the confusion, and Zuko hops down and snags a robe for himself before throwing the door open. “Where is he.” It is soft, and knowing, and Zuko feels the quick panging ache of frustration that he forces himself to fight back down.
It will not be helpful, not with this.
Or: Sokka has a flare up of an old wound, and Zuko helps him through it.

He was a grown man, he’d worked in countless labs before and sure he’d had some questionable outcomes but they’d just let him be the first scientist to study an alien life form! They should have more trust in him than this!
”Everyone in the world wants to get their hands on astrophage. Simon is here to protect you from them.” Stratt explained, turning again to give Grace an exasperated expression. “I should hope you don’t need constant supervision from yourself Dr. Grace.”

But what is one to do when clutching the fragments of shattered glass together, trying to stop the crumbling sheet begins cutting away at their own flesh and bone? Jagged edges tearing into skin until blood seeps and pools underfoot, still desperate to hold onto the sharded pieces remaining stubbornly resolute. Even if it may cost their own life.
One suffers and falls. Only clutching tighter, harsher despite the anguish refusing to let go of a fist full of broken glass. That is unless someone is there to pry their hands free.

“I-I couldn't protect them from the RDA- from Wukula, from being locked up again- what good am I, Rasi? What good would I be as a mate? I failed them.”
Rasi didn't interrupt the silence as she observed the steady warrior so bowed, hiding his tears from her out of shame, and it was much like a knife to Rasi's heart to see him like this.
