Dagmar had gotten the phone call. She'd called him in turn, and together he and Gus and Karin had sat in her office whilst she explained the news to them with steady, careful clarity.
Lars was autistic.
That's why he was the way that he was.
His face is hidden, dipped down into the scuff of his duvet. His whole bed's a mess, a tangle of sheets and blankets kicked aside, one of his pillows tucked down against his body.
Something's off, about the image. It keeps Karin stuck by the door, and when she speaks again it comes out hesitant, unsure.
"Are you sick?"

This project has no such pressures. This is a project with unlimited money, unlimited resources; it turns out science is capable of quite a lot, under those conditions.
The Hail Mary's underway, but the research never stops.
Across the room, Dimitri notices the action. He sits up straighter in his chair, elbows coming to the table.
