If Hugo were told he'd befriend an amnesic boy with unrelated issues, weird powers, and a slight hint of a lack of sense (and self); he'd think it was some weird mission-related reason. If you furthermore told him that he'd risk his life and everything he knew to help said boy recover himself (and maybe save a world while they're at it, because why not?), all for the price of family; he'd laugh in your face.
Well, he surely wasn't laughing now.

Summary

Some stories, such as this one, begin with two boys in a graveyard. It begins with two boys made of clay, grown fragile under a dull sun that asks too much of fragile things. It begins, as certain stories must, with a secret, sagging on drawn wire like a slaughtered pig, drawing a nosy bloodhound behind it.
Some stories, one will learn, are tucked away in the pages of a diary for a reason.
