Summary
Before Wei Wuxian can say he will join Jiang Cheng and attend the Wen indoctrination, a letter describing the burning of the Cloud Recesses reaches Lotus Pier.
Realizing the danger to the Jiang sect, he decides to stay behind to help with the defenses and keep his sect safe. While he agonizes over the fate of the disciples sent as little more than hostages, he upgrades the wards of the Jiang sect to stand against the inevitable Wen army.
Lotus Pier will survive, and Wei Wuxian changes his own fate and the fate of the Sunshot Campaign.

“What could have caused this?” Shen Jiu asked in worry and his eyes barely strayed away from Yue Qi’s face to look at the Qian Cao Peak Lord.“There could be multiple reasons.” The Peak Lord said. “And disciple Shen didn’t see disciple Yue consume anything funny? Eat something the rest of you didn’t?” He questioned.
Shen Jiu shook his head. “He wasn’t even drinking the wine.” He said and walked to stand right next to Yue Qi’s sickbed. The young man at least looked peaceful in his forced sleep. “And this isn’t a Qi Deviation? Maybe it hit again after last time?” He inched his hand to take a hold of Yue Qi’s, but under the Peak Lord’s attention he was being careful.
