Summary
“Come here, kid.” One of Robby’s hands catches Dennis’s and lands against his sternum, trapping his arm against his chest, while the other stays in his hair, fingers winding into damp curls. Dennis’s attention is everywhere and panicked. He catches a flash of Perlah readying the needle and a desperate sound punches out of him.
“Nope, don’t look at that,” Robby says, using the hand in his hair to force his head back, angling his vision away from the commotion and up towards him. Dennis’s eyes lock onto his, pupils blown wide. “Look at me. Yep, good. I’m right here. You’re doing so good, honey. Just keep those eyes on me.”
The IV tourniquet snaps into place and panic flashes anew in Dennis’s face. ”Robby—”
“I know. It’s just Dana and Perlah. We’re just pushing some fluids, no more drugs. You’re safe.” Out of the corner of his eye, Robby can see Perlah speeding through what has to be the fastest IV placement of her career, Dana keeping her grip on Dennis’s hand to stop him from jerking away. Dana shoots him a glance of warning and Robby tightens his hold. “Okay, quick poke now. Still just us. Deep breath, Dennis. I've got you."

Dennis began to shake. He didn't know if it was the cold of the concrete basement or the piercing eyes of Jack Abbot.
"Dr. Abbot?"
Jack tsked. "Puppies don't speak."
Puppy? What the fuck?

Dennis probably should have waited another five minutes before leaving the on-call room himself, because he managed to run right into Mateo, looking fresh as a daisy, in the hall. The nurses were the biggest gossips in the hospital. Fucking hell.
Dennis gulped. He knew he looked exactly like someone who had been recently fucked.
Mateo smirked at him.
“Were you in the on-call room with Dr. Abbot?” he asked knowingly.
In which, I need to visit some popular and overused tropes to put The Characters in Situations. There may be plot. There will definitely be Porn.

Summary
Hi Rebekah. I don’t know if you even care, but I’m calling to tell you I have cancer"-- is the first line of the voicemail. Dennis involuntarily throws his phone to the floor, which is fortunately carpeted. Trinity never knew his deadname, not that it matters. “Fuck,” Dennis whispers.
Trinity clamps one arm around him; the other hand is typing furiously on her phone. She finishes and leans her head on his shoulder. “I’m sorry, Huck.”
They stay that way for a few minutes, Dennis’s mind looping, wondering what his mom said next. Thinking that it’s like she can tell that he finally felt happy, and just had to fuck it up.
The door opens and Robby comes in. “Hey,” he says, voice a little hoarse. Without hesitating, he walks to the couch and sits on Dennis’s other side, sandwiching him between the two people he loves the most.
Or: A continuation of my fic Little Green, where Dennis is pregnant with Robby's baby. In this installment Dennis's mom calls to say she has cancer.

“Is there any chance you could be pregnant?” Mel asks.
That stops him cold. The protein bar turns to sludge in his mouth, and he forces himself to swallow it before he throws up again. “No,” he says automatically.
Mel sighs. “Okay, that’s a relief. Not that--”
But Dennis isn’t listening anymore, because he’s wracking his brain trying to remember everything he learned during his OB rotation. “When does morning sickness start again?” he blurts, cutting Mel off.
“Four to six weeks, usually,” Mel says cheerfully.
“Right.” His mouth has gone impossibly dry, his face burning and bloodless all at once.Or: Dennis and Robby hook up once, and four weeks later Dennis seems to have a mysterious stomach bug...

"Would you ever do something like that?"
Dennis looks up from his phone, "Huh?"
Robby realizes that he sort of just pulled that question out of thin air. That the last time they discussed it was hours and hours ago. But he's bored. And he's drunk. And he's curious. "The fuckin' no nut thing."
It's hard to tell in the dim park lights, but he thinks Whitaker is turning a very pretty shade of pink.
"Oh! Uh… is that really an appropriate thing to discuss with my boss?"
Dennis and Robby make a bet.

“You’ll have to hold on, okay?” Robby chuckled, and Whitaker could feel his body shake, because they were sitting on the same flimsy, stupid seat. Nope. Nope, nope, nope. This was not happening. Some time ago, he remembered cussing out motorcyclists in their entirety, especially the ones who didn’t wear helmets, after a particularly bad collision incident had left them with six casualties, four entirely preventable. It didn’t seem relevant here. Dr Robby was driving. He felt his morals slipping away by the second.
“Hold on to where?” And yes, Whitaker was aware of how weird and stretched out his voice sounded, and no, he was not going to unpack that right now.
“Me.”

A lift home on the back of Robby’s Triumph Bonneville one evening pushes Whitaker’s inconvenient crush on his attending into the danger zone, and Robby seems entirely aware of this.

But he had started to notice a similar reaction that Robby had when he praised him back. A flush on his cheeks, a stutter, the quickening of his breath. A quick denial or a self deprecating joke. Dennis had played with it a little, praising him for how good he felt, how good he made Dennis feel, how beautiful he is.

Summary
“Look, Jack. I…” Robby started, looking almost nervous, like he'd been working up the courage to say whatever came next. “I don't like women, okay?”
Jack stared at him, waited for some kind of clarification that didn't come. He'd known Robby for decades. He knew the man was blunt, knew he could be an asshole when the occasion called for it, and he'd certainly heard him say some questionable shit in his time. But that? He'd never pegged Robby as a misogynist.
Robby tries to come out to Jack. They both leave the conversation thinking the other is a bigot; neither of them can communicate for shit.
