Tracking down and bringing justice to Joel Miller--the man that singlehandedly destroyed the Fireflies and killed her father--should have felt good. All of those years of pent-up anger, frustration, and grief spilled out as she finally had him in her grasp, and yet it didn't feel as liberating as she wanted it to.
After returning to Seattle, the air between the Salt Lake Crew felt tense. Having that girl pinned to the ground and witnessing almost the entire thing shook mostly everyone, and especially Mel. Maybe instead of avoiding the elephant in the room that was butting between them, Abby could still try and salvage what they once had...or what they once wanted it to be.

Mel and Abby were supposed to be past this by now..whatever "this" is. Somewhere between what they used to be and what they are now, things got messy, quiet and unresolved. they don't talk about it, they just orbit each other like it doesn't still matter to them.
Abby keeps herself distracted with Nora, Mel settles into something steady with Owen, it's easier that way for them. it has to be.
but it never really stopped being about them.
misread moments, bad timing, and all the things neither of them have the guts to say piles up until it becomes overwhelmingly impossible to ignore what they're still trying to hold onto. what they couldn't let go of.
