This much unprecedented. Thought location, temperature, time of year problems in previous attempts — fixed all, Grace know Rocky and Adrian work to fix all, and still failure, still.”
Grace fidgets with his hands, stretching each knuckle and palming the free edge of each nail, to keep from throwing himself onto Rocky and howling like an animal.
(Because somewhere along the way, Rocky and Adrian's wish for kids had become Grace's own, too.)
OR: Rocky and Adrian's eggs keep dying long before they hatch, and no one knows why. Grace — who definitely doesn't see himself as a parent to those hatchlings, how stupid and impossible would that be?! — has the normal reaction, which is inventing gene therapy from scratch to help the next egg survive.

A dying blob who took all his attention away from her. She never liked feeling jealous but couldn't help it. She wanted her mate back, needed his love to heal her hurts. Adrian fought for him once and won, she could do it again. The space blob turned out to be no competition, it helped her instead. She was not sure how to feel about it. Should she give it a chance or keep Rocky's love to herself?

“Rocky,” he offers, simple and easy. “You?”
“Grace,” the guy says. “Or Mr. Grace, if you’re a seventh grader within twenty yards of me.”
“Just Grace?”
“Just Rocky?”
Rocky arches a brow and steps inside the copy room, which seems to charge up the air despite the preexisting smell of hot paper and toner. “Look, Mr. Grace,” he says, trying to keep his posture open and casual even though Grace is nearly a hand taller than him. “I didn’t mean to roll up like gangbusters on your copy room racketeering gig, I was just trying to learn the lay of the land and get my sheets prepped for the kids. But I’ll mosey on down to the math department and put my formal order in if need be.”
Grace rolls his jaw like he’s got a marble in his mouth, and now that they’re closer Rocky can make out the bright blue of his eyes and the gold in his lashes. Damn, he’s a good looking son of a bitch, if only he didn’t have a stick jammed so far up his pert little—
