Naofumi Iwatani, the Shield Hero, was summoned to Melromarc. Everything looked great... until he overheard his fellow heroes talking about parties sharing experience from kills. He then finds out some stuff from his help guide that Myne hadn't told him about. In going to Myne to ask his questions, he eavesdrops on her conversation with a nun from the Church of the Three Heroes and learns about a plot against him.
Betrayed, not wanting to stay and be arrested for a crime he never committed, he runs away from the Capital. Now a criminal on the run, Naofumi has to do his best to avoid the Church, the King, and his daughter outside the waves. And trust someone who, slave or not, will help him to overcome his own trials and pains past and present; restoring that which he thought he'd lost long ago.

Meanwhile, Ren continues his own thing while preparing to investigate the Church. And Motoyasu, still trusting his party members despite his doubts, becomes the Lord of Lute Village.
However, in going along their respective paths, the other Heroes realize that; this is nothing like their games at all. Actions have consequences.

With less than two weeks before the Next Wave, Naofumi considers his options for helping himself, Raphtalia, and their daughter Filo to grow stronger. Unfortunately, Fate slaps him upside the head once again when he's captured by the Spear Hero and the Church forces backing him in a surprise ambush.
Ren and Itsuki's fates remain unknown. As well as the fates of their parties, despite their efforts to try and become better for those around them.
Things are grim for sure, but in a cell underneath Melromarc's castle, Naofumi meets an unexpected ally. With her help, and that of a certain young princess, perhaps they can turn things around and help Naofumi escape and meet up with Raphtalia and Filo again?
Or, maybe a certain group of religious fanatics will use the chaos as a chance to perform a coup? You never know when Naofumi's luck is involved. But at least he's not alone in this. The other Heroes are just as boned as him.

The Church has successfully performed its coup de taut. Pope Biscus reigns with an iron fist over the people of Melromarc. The Queen marches her forces towards the Capital, not realizing his Excellency is in possession of a very powerful weapon. One that could wipe out all her forces if left unchecked.
Meanwhile, Naofumi, Itsuki, and Ren have a chance to meet with Fitoria, the legendary Queen of the Filolials. They are still recovering from infiltrating Idol Rabier's city, fleeing the Church Army with the dead noble's slaves, and taking down the Tyrant Dragon Rex by themselves. Not to mention, the revelations they receive on the properties of the Cursed and Blessed Series alike. And yet with only a week till the next Wave, they must go back to the Capital, convince Motoyasu of Bitch's treachery, take on the Pope before he executes the former King and those loyal to the crown, all before dealing with Siltvelt's invasion.
Oh, did I mention that Siltvelt's army has invaded as well? The Heroes are going to have to deal with that too. Amongst a few other issues between themselves and their friends.
They just can't catch a break, can they?
