He shook his head. “What’s it to you?” he asked.
The man didn’t reply. Instead, he raised the item he had removed from the briefcase, touched one end to Yamada’s right temple, and clicked a button at the end.
Yamada jerked violently in anticipation of… something. Pain, electricity, anything. Instead, all he got was a cold sensation where the metal touched his skin, and a light tap as the thing made a small, mechanical click.
He frowned.
“Where are the evacuees being taken?” the man asked again.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Yamada told him.
The man touched the device to his temple again.
Captured during a mission, Present Mic is repeatedly offered a choice: answer the interrogator's question, or permanently lose a little of his sight. The changes are so subtle that he doesn’t notice at first, but once he does, they are all he can think about. It’s cruel, terrifying, and designed to make him break.
