The library’s doors were slightly ajar, light spilling around their edges—he wasn’t the only one retreating tonight. Percy hesitated in the threshold and peered inside.. The stranger’s profile was sharp as a knife—high cheekbones, inky lashes, the quick tilt of his mouth as he muttered something to himself. He wore subdued finery, all black and silver, and moved with the languid confidence of a cat burglar surveying a mark.
Percy froze, heart thudding in his throat. He’d memorized the guest lists—he was compulsive that way—and this face wasn’t on it. Or maybe it was, and Percy had not expected anyone so striking to appear among Whitestone’s usual crop of inbred aristocrats.
The stranger glanced down, catching Percy’s gaze. His eyes were dark enough to look almost golden in the library’s warm light. “You’re not supposed to be here,” the stranger said, voice pitched just above a whisper.
Percy's mother is determined that all of her children will make a match that would keep them safe. Percy just wants to be left alone.

No, this man (just like Percy, who recently turned 19). He’s probably about Percy’s age, maybe a little older, but he runs with the Clasp. Percy only knows a few things for certain about Vax’ildan: he’s good with daggers. He’s got a twin sister. He’s fast as lightning when he wants to be, good at fading away into the shadows, too.
He’s a thief, and probably an assassin to boot.
And he’s easily the most beautiful person Percy’s ever seen.
