“What was he like?” Oczy asks one cool night in early autumn. He blanket is pulled up to their shoulders, and his thumb sits at the edge of Badeni’s mouth. The scar is unnaturally bright, as if it is, itself, the blade and not just the memory of it. He traces it again, half expecting to slice his thumb open.
Badeni pulls his wrist away.
“Stop that.”

The complete story (main text + extra chapter) contains 17k words, posted as a one-shot.Badeni met his gaze with his pale grey eye. His expression remained calm, but in his eye, a fiery light flickered, like the blazing sun piercing through dense foliage, like the North Star scorching the raging waves. He looked as if he was declaring to the whole world that he had absolute conviction in his beliefs, and was confident that he could make anyone else believe the same.
