Perhaps she wanted to verify the soundness of his sanity after he rambled about death, the space-time continuum, and put to question the meaning of life? Hm. That was quite possible. Though, it could also be because he hit her with, “Astrophage is mainly water,” afterwards, and then, “I just know,” as the reasoning behind it. But he was just a time-looping scientist, okay? Not some cool agent from a spy movie.

or: Grace has died and come back quite a few times already, waking up in his classroom every time. Not all of the iterations were spent on Hail Mary, though - sometimes he remained a teacher, sometimes he stayed on Earth. But they all ended in death. Earth was never saved. He wakes up in an old twin bed in San Francisco, with the awful feeling that he's late for school. Or work. Or both. A glance at his phone is enough to rid him of that particular concern (it's Saturday), and fill him with so many others. Why is it 2019?
