But sometimes he contemplates if it's poison ivy wrapping tightly around his esophagus, causing uncomfortable irritation when his childhood crush, flawless Lan Xichen doesn't notice him the way Jiang Cheng notices everything about the older boy.
He might not be certain what it is, but all he knows is that he is growing something so magnificent and indescribable.
And it hurts.
Yet no one believes him when he mentions the pain, when somedays the basic skill of breathing doesn't come easy. He catches the eye rolls, hears the scoffs, fumes at the blatant teasing, and clams up at the scolding he receives for his "exaggeration".

His hand bumped into something firm and solid that he desperately grabbed onto. Shang Qinghua struggled to climb up, breaths coming out in pants from exertion. And when he looked to see what he was holding onto, he felt his insides drop.
Shang Qinghua felt his entire body trembling as he looked up into the face of the man standing before him. Ink black hair spilled down his shoulders and framed his beautifully sculpted face. He stared down at Shang Qinghua, eyes and demon mark glowing blue in the cold night. -

“It’s because I don’t trust you as far as I can throw you,” Jiang Cheng spits and Wei Ying sucks in a breath like he’s been punched in the gut, “It’s because you lied to me and then almost abandoned me when I needed you the most. It’s because you might love me but is that enough? I’m not even sure you respect me.”
The ugly thing in his throat is still there. The jealousy is gone now, but the ugly thing in his throat is still there and Wei Ying has no idea what it is anymore. All he knows is that it’s done with rationality, with reason.
