“Oh, great, great fun,” Tony says and swipes away from the article about Spider-Man wrestling a giant spider on the roof of the Chrysler building.
It’s quite obvious that Tony knows he is Spider-Man, but decided not to acknowledge it; decided to keep the secret going. For what reason, Peter doesn’t know. Maybe Tony thinks he can use the information in his favor, or maybe he just doesn’t want Peter to freak out. Either way, it serves Peter just fine, because Tony tries so hard to keep up his oblivious act that he never prods too hard or looks too deep.
Which means all of Peter’s far bigger secrets are still safe. -

Spider-Man is unpredictable and chaotic, never says no to free food and seems to spend most his time directing traffic. This rookie is in desperate need of a chaperone. And Tony doesn’t want to do it, but he’ll bear the burden as gracefully as he always does.
Local teen Peter Parker never wears warm enough clothes, and can’t always sleep at home for reasons he refuses to go into. So if the Avengers really expect Sam to join their hippie-commune-cult, someone is going to have to look after this kid for him. -

“It's Friday?” Peter sits up so fast that Tony only just manages to pull back before the top of Peter’s head can collide with his chin. “Today's Friday?”
“That’s right,” Tony grunts, scooping Peter off of his lap and setting him on his feet. Peter frantically wrenches his pajama shirt over his head, he gets tangled in the sleeves and starts to struggle, but Tony is there to guide his arms free. Peter looks up at him with a flushed face, his eyes bright with excitement, and Tony wonders if he has somehow time traveled four months into the future and it is actually Peter’s birthday.

It all started with a Cindy’s conspiracy theory about Spider-Man’s identity. How Peter supposedly being an agent for S.H.I.E.L.D. entered the equation was still a mystery, and he would be lying if he said the accusation wasn’t driving him insane. No matter what Peter said or did, all people saw was Agent Parker, the teenage spy protector of Spider-Man’s identity.
At least no one suspected him of being said wall crawling vigilante, but maybe that would have been better than the psychic damage Peter’s friends decided to inflict upon him thanks to the theory. If that’s how it was going to be, the best Peter could do is mess with them back.

While Spider-Man is a menace to the villains that call New York their home, Peter Parker is a surprisingly good listener for their woes. It starts with a hostage situation, as things often do, and Sandman monologuing about his latest stint in prison and how hard it is to get back into the villain game after so long locked up. Then came a kidnapping at Stark Tower while Electro tried to steal an Arc Reactor for the seventh time, then happening upon Lizard one day while walking home from school. Tony says Peter is villain catnip. But this? This is too much.
Peter’s entire AcaDec group sits on the ground, backs pressed up against the wall of the coffee shop Kraven the Hunter has taken hostage.
Or: after so many incidents with bad guys as Peter instead of Spider-Man, he decides to go with the flow and play into it a little

The first time James Rhodes meets Tony Stark, Tony is a scrawny teenager, running across the lawn at campus, yelling curses, using a tea towel to try and trap a roomba-like contraption that is zigzagging wildly through the grass, until he trips over his own feet and faceplants. People laugh but Rhodey takes pity, so when the thing zooms towards him he lifts one foot and traps the robot underneath it. It beeps once and the wheels stop whirring.
Instead of thanking him, the teenager scrambles forward on hands and knees, glares up at him and says “well thanks you probably broke it, dumbass.” -
